When you imagine a deer, what do you think of first? Exactly – the antlers. However, only the males have antlers. Between January and March the red deer loses his antlers, but do not worry, they grow back again. Each year the antlers grow back a bit bigger. The older the deer, the more his antlers are branched. You can imagine that such a rack can be quite heavy. On average, an antler weighs six kilograms. The antlers of an older deer can weigh between 15 and 25 kg. The red deer, just like all deer, are very shy. They are also pure vegetarians. Grasses, leaves, herbs, shoots of coniferous trees, mushrooms, berries, fruits and acorns are all food for them.
